What is the difference between essential and etherical oil?

In principle, the terms essential oil and etherical oil are often used interchangeably and that in itself is quite logical

Essential oils are extracted from parts of plants such as the seeds, bark, leaves, peel, fruit, blossom and other parts of plants.
The term etheric oil originated because it concerns volatile substances from the plant that will quickly disappear after harvesting. The term essential oils seems to stem from the English ‘Essence’ (in English Essential Oils) which means extract, but in addition these ‘etheric oils’ are made from the essence of the plant, so quite a logical name! According to several sources, etherical oil is used when the plant is still intact and as soon as the fragrance from the plant has been processed into a liquid, we call it essential oils.
